Below is a statement from Christie-Lee McNally, Executive Director of Free Our Internet:
The Senate Commerce Committee’s effort to review the current state of online consumer privacy with tomorrow’s hearing is a positive step, however one of the largest abusers of personal data, Facebook, will be absent. When examining an issue as important as the handling of Americans’ online data, it is critical to include the largest keepers of our personal, behavioral information. Omitting a company from the witness list that has access to the intimate data of more than 2.23 billion monthly active users and that has already been caught abusing that data, seems futile. We are hopeful that as Congress continues to examine online consumer privacy, it will include consideration of Facebook at all steps along the way, regardless of how many times Mark Zuckerberg has testified in the past.
